Hip Hop and Rap Music – Is there a difference?

If there is one thing that this generation loves to hear over the best shelf stereo system, that would be hip hop and rap music. This generation’s fanaticism in these types of music is ridiculously crazy because they seem to live the music and evokes some kind of emotion among the youth. But have you ever wondered where these types of music originated from?

Nowadays many people interchange the meaning of rap and hip hop. Some say these two types of music have the same meaning but many also say that the rap and hip hop are two different types of music. Fair enough, by listening to the music alone, it is in fact difficult to tell the difference between the two. Perhaps the difference really lies on the listener, depending on the listener’s perspective and interpretation.

Hip hop is a subculture and art movement developed by the African-Americans and Latinos in New York City. Hip hop is characterized by anywhere from four to nine elements or expressive realms, which hip hop music is only one element. In short, Hip hop culture is defined by the late ’70s, ’80s beat-box style of music .

The artists, and many just like them, sang in upbeat tones that people to stand up to  their seats and dance to the music. Their message was a brighter type of ballad. Hip Hop movement has 6 elements: Consciousness Awareness, Civil Rights Awareness, Activism Awareness, Justice, Political Awareness, and Community Awareness

Rap Music

Rap has various meanings, the most suitable meaning are “ to strike , quick and smart,” . It is more concerned is going o­n in popular culture. Rapping require the need of extensive thinking, meaningful words, yet relate to the listeners and profound meaning. Current rap stars like Eminem, Boy Meet evil, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Ice Cube and Machine Gun Kelly, they rap about the prevalence of drug dealing in their own hometowns , political issues , or general elements of impropriety among the leaders of their own nation.

Regardless of the confusion, what really matters is that listeners enjoy the music and that’s usually the case. Understanding the lyrics or the meaning usually comes later. Nonetheless, hip hop or rap, pop or rock – what’s important is that these types of music makes us happy.
