Why Musicians Badly Need Social Media

Concert

I hate Facebook. You won’t believe how often I hear this sentence when my counterpart learns how I earn my money. My answer is often the same and so far most people didn’t like it at all.

I know that everything has become so difficult in this day and age. The fees are bad, the performances are little, Spotify is evil and nobody buys CDs anymore. We Germans have always been able to complain quite well, so for once we musicians didn’t stay out of it. Everything used to be better anyway. Sure, my grandma always said, and sometimes I feel the same way. But is that really the case?

  • Could a band build its own fanbase over thousands of kilometers without ever performing there?
  • Could a musician produce and market his own songs at a reasonable price?
  • Could you offer your songs to a broad audience without a label?
  • Could a band directly reach and appeal to all these wildly scattered fans?
  • Was there a platform where you could present your band to billions of people for free?

I could certainly continue the questions for a long time now, I just want to make it a little clear what great opportunities are available today. Of course, social media isn’t easy, but if it were easy, then anyone could. That is why many have resorted to getting an Social Media marketing panel to help them promote anything on social media. I would just like to give a little courage to tackle this area accordingly. If you listen to a few tips correctly, seriously question them for yourself, and implement them gradually, then it will not only bring you fun but also be successful.

YOU CAN’T DO SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE SIDE

You have a new record out there and the fans should buy it now. Before your sales posting, you didn’t let anything be heard from you for weeks, but now the mob is allowed to rip the whole thing out of your hands. How stupid do you think the fans are? They want to be cared for and participate. The better you treat your foundation, the better you will be treated.

Maintain your social media presence regularly! A measly 5 minutes a day is enough to maintain your Facebook fan page properly.

SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT A TOOL

The understanding of social media still does not seem to have reached many. I’ll just compare it to the music. For example, you are a guitarist (a gifted one of course 🙂 ) and play in a really cool band. You could make music with your clap alone, pretty well even. But it gets better as soon as everyone else in the band pulls together and really fat songs are created. This is similar in the social media sector. You are the musicians and Facebook is the instrument. To be successful there you have to know what you want, practice daily and then turn the whole thing into fat songs.

COMPLETELY OR NOT AT ALL – ALL OR NONE

Well, Facebook is not for me. I don’t like that.

Why?

Well, because of the data and stuff.

This is how a conversation often goes when I ask a musician if he is active on Facebook. You can do it that way, ultimately everyone should decide for themselves. But it is often forgotten that it also has an impact on the band. If you’re traveling as a solo entertainer, then you only have to make up the effects with yourself. In a band, however, everyone has to suffer from it. So without a network on Facebook, it is just difficult to spread. In my opinion, in the future, the selection of musicians will no longer be based only on the standard criteria. Those who can use social media and are well networked will increasingly have the edge in the future. Sounds nasty, but will come or has been so for a long time.
